CWP Classroom

For everyone interested in
quality Bible Study!

Unique, high-quality series of Bible studies . . .
New, highly engaging approach to Bible study. . .

CWP Classroom offers an alternative to high-cost college-level Bible Study. Here is a focused, one-of-a-kind program of high-quality, short-course seminars. You can study simply for the love of personal growth, or you can work towards a more formalized credential. Topics tend to focus on the New Testament and are relevant to life. Course content will challenge you. Even so, courses will be offered at extremely low-cost to anyone around the world.

Accreditation, Associations, Degrees

CWP Classroom may seek associations with organizations considered appropriate. However, we are not a college and will not seek (nor do we desire) accreditation from typical US based accrediting organizations. If you are desiring classwork that will “transfer college credit” to a traditional institution, we do not participate in that approach.

Short-Course Seminars and Credential/Continuing Education Modules are especially for those who want high-quality instruction without mortgaging the house or taking out loans to get it. Compared to traditional programs, our approach is extremely flexible and affordable. The students we seek are more concerned with high-quality instruction in the New Testament and with affordability than with the accumulation or transferability of credits.

Degrees: We do not offer traditional degrees. Many so-called “schools of Theology” and degree mills now offer a whole list of “Masters and Doctors” degrees online even though they are not qualified to do so. If you are wanting traditional college degree work, we encourage you to seek out reputable institutions that offer such.

Teacher and Seminar Leader

Gary D. Collier (70 seconds)

Although outside teachers might be brought in from time to time, the primary teacher and seminar leader is the founder of the Coffee with Paul project, Gary D. Collier. Gary taught graduate and undergraduate Biblical Studies (especially biblical languages) at Fuller Theological Seminary (Pasadena, CA), Iliff School of Theology/University of Denver (Denver, CO), and Martin University (Indianapolis, IN). He holds the following degrees in biblical studies: BA, MDiv, ThM; and is currently writing his PhD dissertation on First Thessalonians. Gary has published several books and numerous articles in national and international journals (including the Journal for Study of the New Testament, Restoration Quarterly, and others).

After 15 years of university teaching and 25 years in professional ministry, Gary came to believe that…

although traditional schools and churches have important roles, the brightest future for the open study of Scripture does not rest within the confining walls of either the traditional academy or the institutional church.  While these are certainly vital conversation partners, they are only partners and not the “masters” they sometimes present themselves as being. For despite their many good qualities, they are also, as human institutions, far too often driven by the issues of money, property, and power and control to be trusted as the sole interpreters or final authorities of Scripture.  True Bible study must not only be communal (it must be that!), it must also be an intensely personal matter, where individuals take responsibility and ownership of the Scriptures they read.

With this in mind, Gary walked away from university teaching and “professional” ministry to found the Coffee with Paul Classroom, and he offers this advice to all who want to study the Bible on a deeper level:

Our Approach

If you are wanting a high-quality approach to personal growth and improvement in New Testament studies or related special topics and as these might relate to some area of ministry or church leadership, we have built our courses for just that purpose. This is responsible Bible study, using scholars as conversation partners, yet staying in touch with day-to-day concerns.

Level: Each class will contain three levels. As a student, you will choose your own level. There will be no difference in cost and you will always receive all levels:

  1. Beginning = introductory with basic exercises.
  2. Intermediate = college level components.
  3. Advanced = graduate level components.

Approach: This is about becoming “conversation partners.” For more on the manner of teaching and approach, go here (or click the Approach tab).

Private Mentoring: Students will be able to sign-up for private mentoring by phone conferencing, video conferencing, or in person (if possible). However, this will be an added cost depending on whether it is a one-time, a weekly, or a monthly mentoring arrangement.

Modules: A module is equal to a seminar (online or live) that meets 1 hour each week for 3-5 weeks each, depending on the module. All seminars and modules are planned to be as videos, audios, or webinars — or even live. These can be taken as individual seminars or as part of a credential-based program. Live modules might be conducted on an intensive basis during a one or two-day period. Credentials include:

  1. Credential in New Testament Text
  2. Credential in New Testament Language (NT Greek)
  3. Credential in Christian Origins
  4. Master Credential in New Testament (1 + 2 + 3)

Continuing Education Credit (CE): More information will be forthcoming about this.

Starting Times and Residency: There is no “residency” requirement and no special registration period. You can start and stop at any time. All seminars can be taken on-line and at your own pace. Live seminars and events are planned, depending on your availability.

PAIDEIA (pie-DAY-ah – click the link for its meaning in the New Testament) is the Greek term for “instruction or education.” The PAIDEIA Institute for New Testament Studies (PINT) will disseminate the CWP philosophy of “reading contextually, responsibly, and conversationally” throughout all of its offerings.

NOTE: The Institute is being developed and is not yet operational. However, if you think you might like to participate in this, and if you would like to be kept on a mailing list of “prospective students,” please fill out the form at the bottom of this page. We’ll then keep in touch with you about this project. There is no obligation and you can withdraw at any time. This will help us, as well as keep you informed of our progress.
